Welcome to Oadby
Oadby is a winning location for a variety of reasons – it’s a desirable suburb, sandwiched by Leicester racecourse from the equally alluring Stoneygate. Both sprang up at the turn of the century, when the business leaders of the city sought substantial houses on the outskirts.
Over a century later, Oadby provides all the necessities of 21st-century everyday life, with the advantage of being just three miles from the buzzing bright lights, shopping and leisure options of the city centre but, in contrast, just a mile or so from the lush Leicestershire countryside with limitless walking, cycling and riding opportunities. In fact, the esteemed Glen Gorse golf course and Mere Lane riding school are also set in the suburb of Oadby.
Road connectivity is excellent, with the main A6 dual carriageway passing through Oadby, and it’s just three miles to Leicester and South Wigston train stations. Bus links to the city centre are also excellent.
Oadby town centre has a great range of shops, including supermarkets such as Sainsbury’s, Adsa and Lidl, pubs, restaurants, Post Office and medical centre. For relaxation, Coombe Park with its football pitches and play area is nearby, and it’s a little further to the beautiful Brocks Hill country park with miles of paved paths and informal tracks among the woods and meadows.
There’s a superb choice of state and private schooling with Leicester High School for Girls, Leicester Grammar School and Stoneygate School of particular note. Beauchamp College is a state school and also has a great reputation.
If you’re looking for a diverse area perfect for young families, benefiting from being just a short distance to both the countryside and city centre, Oadby would make the ideal location to call home.
